There is a secret magic at work in all of us, too often ignored. I see the evidence of it every day of the work week.
I was warned that my job would be difficult. I was told that getting people to do their best would be hard. I was told to expect politics, pressure, and positioning for the upper hand. I was cautioned to mistrust all I observe. Someone would be trying to “get over” on me, or so I was told.
None of that is true. In fact, the opposite. People exceed my expectations. They are professionals. They are deeply caring. They put their clients first.
When I was told all these things, I refused to believe. Instead, I made my expectations clear and I praise people consistently, sometimes to the point where they are embarrassed.
And I am grateful. This is the true magic. Now they do not wish to disappoint.
I didn’t believe in the shadow, and now the shadow does not exist.
I believed in everyone’s light, and now only light exists.
Imagine if we all believed that about each other.
